"My dream is to win 5 million yuan, so I opened a lottery store."
In 2023, Nuannuan (pseudonym), born in the 1990s, took a liking to the trend of young people being fond of scraping and scraping, and opened a sports lottery store in Hunan, hoping to live a "retirement life" ahead of schedule. However, although the enthusiasm of young people for "scraping lottery tickets" remains undiminished, warm stores still face a business crisis.
There is no other reason, the scraper is out of stock.
01
Out of stock as usual:
Young people buy lottery tickets at checkpoints
"Out of stock is the norm," Nuannuan told China News Finance. "Currently, all types of scrapers are out of stock, and 3-5 books can be ordered within 10 days to half a month."
On April 24th, Nuannuan ordered 8 books of scratch music. She stated that this is the first time the goods have been released locally in April.
Zhongxin Finance and Economics has noticed that lottery stores in many provinces and cities have reported a shortage of scrapers on social media platforms.
At noon on weekdays, at a welfare lottery store in Beijing, the scratch tickets on the counter were almost sold out, and there were only two or three scratch tickets with a face value of 50 yuan left.
Lottery shop owner Xia Ming (pseudonym) told China News Finance that there are very few left of the dozen or so scratch lottery tickets he received half a month ago. And when and how much we can get the scratch again is still an unknown number.
"Now all the 10 yuan and 20 yuan tickets have been scraped, leaving only 30 yuan and 50 yuan." In the lottery displayed by Xia Ming, only a few scattered 30 yuan scratch tickets are left.
Xia Ming told China News Finance that she first felt the signs of stockouts around the Qingming Festival. "I give very few books each time, and this time there are still quite a few books. Fortunately, there have been fewer people scraping the lottery these days, so I can only buy a few books in small quantities every day and sell them carefully."
"At present, there is no choice but to sell whatever the specialist gives, just like tobacco, with limited supply." She said that many people who come to buy scrapers are young people. "There are old customers who often come to scrape, and they will specially come to buy when the door is just opened. If they come any later, they may be gone."
02
Young people who love scraping:
Buying a whole book is a common occurrence
For lottery shop owners, the supply of scrapers is related to the revenue situation of the lottery shop. For young people who are passionate about buying scrapers, scrapers mean a kind of stress relieving happiness.
Scraping lottery tickets in a bad mood, under too much pressure, and even when faced with indecisiveness, scraping lottery tickets. As a type of instant lottery ticket, scraping lottery has become a new type of "blind box" popular among young people due to its instant redemption and simple gameplay. In recent years, it has been popular, and even new businesses such as "scraping lottery bouquets" and "online scraping" have emerged.
According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, in March this year, a total of 55.601 billion yuan of lottery tickets were sold nationwide, an increase of 5.809 billion yuan year-on-year, or 11.7%. Among them, instant lottery has the fastest growth rate, with sales of 13.713 billion yuan in March, a year-on-year increase of 5.26 billion yuan, an increase of 62.2%, accounting for 24.6% of the lottery market share.
"On the last day of the Chinese New Year, I bought a scraper and scraped out 100 yuan. During that time, I was very happy and felt like I had won a good fortune." Qi Qi, born in the 1990s (pseudonym), told China News Finance that she doesn't buy scrapers often, but the scrapers she buys at special times add a sense of "ceremony".
Apart from those who occasionally buy scrapers, there are also some people who are addicted to buying whole books. "At a party before, a friend who had a hobby of scraping and scraping bought two scraping and scraping books on site. The 2000 yuan scraping and scraping finally cost 500 yuan," said Qi Qi.
"There are many young people who buy whole books of scrapers and scrapers," Xia Ming told China News Finance. Previously, it was common for people to buy whole books of scrapers and scrapers in stores. "The one with the largest amount has an opening of 1000 yuan."
03
Behind the Scraper Out of Stock:
Is it too popular or is there a limit?
So, in such a hot selling market, is scraping and scraping really being sold out by young people?
In Nuannuan's view, the shortage of scraping and scraping music is due to the shortage of supply, as the approval limit for scraping and scraping music by the Sports Lottery center has reached the national approval limit this year and cannot exceed the limit.
However, the Chinese sports lottery customer service denied this claim. "I haven't received any relevant notification."
The official statement shared by sports lottery and lucky lottery is that supply exceeds demand.
"The demand for instant ticket market has been strong recently, and production supply cannot keep up, resulting in a shortage of tickets. This problem will need some time to alleviate." The staff of the Welfare Lottery Center told China News Finance that the Welfare Lottery Center is understanding the relevant situation and urging and guiding provincial and municipal lottery institutions to further optimize the ticket allocation mechanism to ensure the supply of instant tickets. "There is indeed a shortage of supply here in the short term."
Under the shortage of scratch tickets, many lottery shop owners feel business pressure. Xia Ming told China News Finance that the profit of her lottery operated store is divided into 7 points, which is not optimistic compared to the rent and labor costs in Beijing, even with a shortage of scrapers. "Fortunately, I still sell cigarettes and alcohol on a regular basis."
"The specialist said that there is expected to be some improvement in the second half of the year," Nuannuan told China News Finance, but since March, her monthly profits have been insufficient to pay rent.
"I don't have the authority to compete in lottery, there's no stock of scratch tickets, and there are few people buying digital lottery. I keep an empty store every day, but it's a waste of rent if I don't keep it." Nuannuan was a bit confused about this, "The rent will expire in mid May, should we continue to renew it?"
